The Definition of Sophistication?
Porktastic Bacon Burger

Why hello there, bacon fans. It's been a while, I know - university has been handing my (language warning: sensitive readers are advised to skip the word immediately following this bracket, and in its place think "bottom" or other suitable synonym for arse) arse to me, so I haven't had much time to eat bacon. Well, that's a blatant lie, I've eaten tonnes of it - but I haven't had much time to take pictures of it prior to stuffing my greedy little face. Having been out for a couple of beers last night, though, I decided to take today off and create the manliest porkiest burger I could, and if I may say so myself - which indeed I may - I think I did a pretty good job.

What you see above was inspired by an episode of Man vs Food where Adam visited a burger joint where, in a rather un-American fashion, they had decided to make each patty tiny and serve up lots of them, rather than going for individual bulk. I thought that was a near idea as it allows you much more freedom in getting your patty-to-topping ratio the way you like it. The beast above consists of 1 onion, 3 slices of Edame, 4 rashers of smoked bacon, and 6 burger patties. Oh, and BBQ sauce. Here's how it's done:

Mustard Onion

Burgers, bacon.

Burger Patties

(Makes about 15)

  • 500g Pork Mince
  • 0.5tsp Liquid Smoke
  • Freshly cracked Black Pepper
  • 3tbsp Bread Crumbs
  • 1 Egg

Mustard Onion

  • 1 small Onion
  • 1tbsp American Mustard
  • 1tbsp Water, boiling
  • ½ Stock Cube

Other Stuff

  • 4 rashers of Bacon
  • 3 slices of Edame cheese
  • A burger bun
  • BBQ sauce

Method

1) Slice the onion as finely and chuck it in a pan with a knob of butter, place over a low heat and leave to sweat until translucent, then add your mustard, water, and stock, stir and set aside.

2) For the burger patties, simply mix all the ingredients together, then form small thin burger patties (you should get about 15 of them out of the recipe)

3) Fry the bacon and burgers up - add the cheese to 3 of the patties when they have about half a minute to go in the pan (they should only take about 2 minutes to cook).

4) Meanwhile, toast the burger bun.

5) Combine, and try to eat without making a mess. Good luck.

Well hello there!

Thank you, thank you, very flattered.:) Haha, I actually only used one, and both napkin and plate (and clothes) were surprisingly clean at the end as well! I've made a similar burger once before and it ended up all over the place, but this one actually held together quite nicely. :)
